Inspiration Alcona offers programs to help students at Alcona Community Schools expand their knowledge and appreciation of the arts.
2023
Tutoring and EnrichmentInspiration Alcona won a $70,300 educational grant in late 2022, with programming beginning in early 2023. This after-school and summer program offers over 500 hours of learning to Alcona Community Schools students. About half the time is devoted to tutoring in STEM subjects, with the other half going to enrichment lessons including dance, art, athletics, a gaming club and more.

JUNE 2022
Free Summer Art for YouthInspiration Alcona's annual summer art lessons are held at Alcona Elementary School. Though the school is supplying the space, any student finishing the third through fifth grade is welcome, including homeschooled kids and those visiting grandma for the summer. Sign up at the elementary school office, 989-736-6413, to participate.
In 2022, Alcona Elementary art teacher Brooke Green led the first four sessions. Detroit ceramics artist Ricky Blanding led the second four. In 2023, this program will be incorporated into the larger summer program above. |
SCHOOL MONDAYS
Free After-School Guitar LessonsEach Monday, right after school, Joe Thomas, host of Inspiration Alcona's weekly open mic Tuesdays, Dockside Jams, gives free guitar lessons to Alcona Community Schools students ages 14 and up. Sign up at the high school office for the 2022 - 2023 school year. Bring your guitar if you have one, or you’ll be able to borrow one from Joe if you do not.
