Since 2018 Inspiration Alcona has been offering free ukulele lessons to fourth- and fifth-grade students at Alcona Elementary School. This program supports an effort to bring music back to the students at a district that had a six-year gap without a music teacher.
Our instructor, Joe Thomas, is the IT assistant at Alcona County Library and an experienced musician who operates the popular Tuesday night Dockside Jams, a weekly open mic event cosponsored by Inspiration Alcona and the Alcona Music Project.
The group lesson is limited to eight students, and a waiting list is maintained for those who want to get into the class. Sign up with the elementary school office, 989-736-6413, to enroll for the fall semester 2022, when these sessions will begin again.
