Diane Roach Smith will teach traditional methods of watercolor painting in her Alcona Arts Retreat workshop. She will be using a limited palette of transparent paints. The class will begin by taking photographs outdoors but will then move inside for the actual painting of the captured scenes. The photo section will involve a nice walk, not hiking.
Diane specializes in watercolor, colored pencil and photography. She teaches regularly at the Birmingham-Bloomfield Art Center in suburban Detroit. Diane's work has been featured in numerous shows all over southeast Michigan as well as in Texas. Learn more about Diane at dianeroachsmith.com All levels of experience. Class limit is 12 students. |

Class Supply List
I like to use professional paints as well as professional paper. Below are suggestions for supplies. But bring what you have so you do not break the budget!
You'll need both a warm and a cool version of red, yellow and blue. I use only transparent colors. Good choices are Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, or Sennelier.
At least three 22" x 30" sheets of 140-pound cold press Arches or similar paper
Plan to do at least one 15" x 22" painting, but the rest can be smaller. Only one will be as small as 8" x 10." We will start as many as 10 paintings.
Brushes you ordinarily use
#2 pencil and eraser
Extra fine Sharpie marker
Masking tape
Board big enough to attach your largest painting
Transparent tracing paper (Hobby Lobby has great tracing paper!)
Water bucket
Rag or a roll of paper towels
If you want specifics of the colors I use, please e-mail me through the contact form on my website: dianeroachsmith.com/.
