The site of the retreat is a private resort in Alcona County, between Lake Huron and Hubbard Lake.
The lodge at Lost Lake Woods Club overlooks a small lake bordered by forest.
The 12 students and two teachers at the 2015 test event gathered for a group photo.
In 2016's first Lost Lake Writers Retreat, thirty-seven students attended, along with six instructors,John D. Lamb, who directed the three-day event.

The 2017 Lost Lake Writers Retreat features a staff who live or have lived in Michigan. The retreat will be directed by John D. Lamb of Springfed Arts, another 501(c)3 nonprofit that has held weekly writing classes in the metro Detroit area for two decades. Teachers this year include poet and songwriter Wyn Cooper, poet Jack Ridl, mystery writer Craig Holden, memoir writer Anne-Marie Oomen, author and songwriter Whit Hill, and nonfiction writer Maureen Dunphy

The schedule below gives the detailed plan, but the summary is that the retreat will begin with an appetizers, wine and beer party at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 5.  Friday and Saturday will be learning and writing time. Sunday we'll all gather for a farewell brunch, followed by a final reading by participants. By midafternoon Sunday, students will be able to head for home.

Participant options run from tuition only to a package that includes a private room, breakfast and lunch Friday and Saturday, and all the retreat events. Check prices through the How to Enroll page button below.

As part of the third annual Lake Huron Discovery Tour, which runs Friday through Monday of the same weekend, Inspiration Alcona and other groups plan to host events nearby, so there will be things to do if you want to bring a spouse or the whole family. See the details about these other events through the www.US23HeritageRoute.org website as the date grows nearer. Information about the Discovery Tour will grow throughout the year as other groups make their plans.
