At least a dozen of Helen's pastel paintings have won awards in such venues as the Pastel Society of America's annual exhibition, the annual Pastel 100 contest, the Great Lakes Pastel Society, International Association of Pastel Societies Juried Exhibition and International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle Exhibition. Her paintings and articles have appeared in the Pastel Journal and her work has been used in books about pastels.

"I don’t paint houses, barns, or boats at the harbor," Helen says. "I paint patterns of light and shadow, color, texture, shapes, and emotion." Helen has taught at this art retreat several times and is among the most popular of our teachers. A $40 materials fee covers high-quality pastels, special paper, etc.

Helen also offers regular classes in pastels and watercolors at her studio in Vicksburg, Michigan, Helen's Art House. She also conducts an annual workshops on Beaver Island. 

She is a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, the Northern Indiana Pastel Society, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, and has achieved Master Circle status with the International Association of Pastel Societies.
