with Joan Schwartz

Joan has been doing mosaics with handmade pieces for the past 13 years. She may use various kinds of glass, ceramics, beads, wood, metal and other materials within a single work. "I love to build my own substrates when possible," she says, "and I try to think outside the box."

This class will offer instruction in a wall relief, paying attention to design elements, color choice and selection of materials. Students are welcome to incorporate items of their own, such as broken china, jewelry, buttons, etc. A $75 materials fee covers materials and use of tools.

Joan is an active member of both the Society of American Mosaic Artists and of Mosaic Artists of Michigan plus several other art organizations.

Her works are in many private collections and are permanently displayed at the Huntington Woods Library, Beaumont Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital as well as others locations in Michigan, the United States and overseas.
